The Biblical Illustrator1 - Google Play

The Biblical Illustrator is an over 34,000 page, 56-volume compilation of 10,000 passages of Scripture. It is arranged in commentary form for use in personal study and devotion, and for sermon preparation.

The majority of the commentary is illustrative, and includes content from hundreds of famous authors of its day such as Dwight L. Moody, Charles Spurgeon, J. C. Ryle, Charles Hodge, Alexander MacLaren, Adam Clark, Matthew Henry, and many others. While this commentary does not examine the Greek or Hebrew, the New Testament does include many references to, and explanations of, the original Greek words.

Joseph S. Exell edited and compiled this commentary and it is the triumph of a life devoted to Biblical research and study. Assisted by an army of students, Exell draws on the rich stores of great minds since the New Testament times.

The Biblical Illustrator brings Scripture to life in a unique, illuminating way. While other commentaries explain a Bible passage in terms of doctrine, this illustrates the Bible with a collection of

1) illustrations
2) outlines
3) anecdotes
4) history
5) expositions
6) geography
7) sermons
8) background information

for almost every verse in the Bible. This massive commentary was originally intended for preachers needing help with preparing sermons. But today, the Biblical Illustrator provides applications for life, illumination, inspiration, doctrine, devotion, and content for all who teach, preach, and study the Bible.
